The Green Party of Ontario leader stopped by Georgetown Friday to lend his support to residents protesting recent Ford government decisions that will impact Halton’s farmland and greenspace.
Mike Schreiner was among the 60 or so people who lined Guelph Street near Georgetown Market Place for the pop-up rally organized by Halton Hills Climate Action.
“We’re saying to Doug Ford keep your promise - hand off our greenbelt,” said Schreiner.
Those who took part in the event were protesting:
- Bill 23 - the More Homes Built Faster Act
- The Province’s plan to build on designated greenbelt lands
- The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing recently overturning the Halton growth plan, directing the municipality to expand its urban boundary and build on farmland in Milton and Halton Hills.
Similar rallies are being held in Milton, Oakville, Burlington and other municipalities across southern Ontario this weekend and next as part of a ‘Hands off the greenbelt and stop Bill 23’ day of action.
