Heat warning continued for:
- Vaughan - Richmond Hill - Markham
- Halton Hills - Milton
- Burlington - Oakville
- St. Catharines - Grimsby - Northern Niagara Region
- City of Hamilton
Current details:
A heat event is expected to begin today and persist into Tuesday.
Daytime highs are expected to be near 31 degrees Celsius with humidex values of 35 to 38. There will be little relief through the overnight as lows are expected to be 20 degrees Celsius or above.
A cooler airmass is expected to arrive Tuesday night.
The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues.
Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration.
Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.
