IN PHOTOS: Indian community lights up Georgetown for third Diwali

The local rendition of the festival raised funds for the Georgetown Hospital and Townsend Smith Foundations

Norval United Church was lit up, bedazzled and spiced for Georgetown's third Diwali celebration Saturday evening.

Organized by community leader and Halton Hills Interfaith Council member Aditee Goswami, the gathering raised $500 each for the Townsend Smith Foundation - which is planning to build north Halton's first hospice - and the Georgetown Hospital Foundation.

New this year was a Ramlila, a re-enactment of the epic fable of the Ramayana, which tells the story behind Diwali.
