Georgetown Holi celebration participants get into the spirit of celebrating spring with a festival of colours.

The Georgetown community, led by local Hindus, will ring in spring again with one of its newest celebrations, the colourful festival of Holi.

But the 2025 event, set for March 15 at Norval United Church, will be bigger than ever because the organizers will also be throwing a 'mela' - a Sanskrit word that means ‘gathering’ or ‘fair,’ which can take many forms. In the case of Georgetown Holi, there will be a vendor market, music, face painting and food to purchase.

“It's getting bigger because we are spreading the news and people are getting to know about the fun,” organizer Aditee Goswami said. “It’s all about fun.”

Last year’s Holi celebration was combined with Easter, giving many a glimpse of two different spring festivals. This year won’t be a joint celebration as the two are too far apart on the calendar. There will be some Easter activities, however, like crafts.

Money raised at the occasion will be donated to local charities (further specifics yet to be confirmed).

Tickets are available through Eventbrite. Attendees can bring cash the day of to buy Holi T-shirts and colourful powders to playfully throw at each other – each costing $5.
