There's a new face at the helm of Food for Life - the Halton agency that rescues surplus food from grocery stores and suppliers and redistributes it to households in need.
The organization's board of directors has announced Karen Randell as the new Executive Director. She will assume the position on Nov. 27.
Food for Life says Randell is an accomplished social sector leader with experience in organizations focused on homelessness, poverty reduction, and food insecurity. Over the past 29 years, she's made it her mission to address poverty and food insecurity, becoming a respected advocate for those in need.
“What particularly impressed us about Karen was her extensive knowledge of food insecurity priorities in the region and her innate ability to build and strengthen relationships and collaborative partnerships, which is critical as the strain on the food security system continues to grow,” said Board Chair Paul Keery.
“We’re confident that her deep knowledge, combined with strategic and operational expertise, will allow Karen to make an immediate impact as we make significant strides in the fight against food insecurity and to protect the planet through rescued food.”
Randell said Food For Life's consistent recognition as a top 100 Canadian charity is a testament to its commitment, transparency and effectiveness in creating positive change.
“I am truly humbled and excited to join this passionate and dedicated team of employees and volunteers with a shared commitment to feeding our neighbours and reducing food waste," she said.
"Food For Life has made a significant impact on the lives of those experiencing food insecurity. At the heart of this organization is a profound belief that reducing food waste is not only about feeding people, but about creating a more sustainable and compassionate community.”
