Georgetown's Twice The Deal Pizza has some new faces at its helm.
Husband and wife Amit and Shweta Khanna took over the business at 148 Guelph St. this fall and immediately set out to improve on the work of their predecessor.
“In the last six weeks, we have gathered almost 30 Google reviews - all of them were five-star,” Amit Khanna said.
Fresher dough, more flavours in sauces and juicier chicken wings are some of the improvements made by the newcomers.
The dough being the foundation of a good pizza, the couple keeps a careful eye on the temperature of the water used in the process. This attention to detail is being applied to the raising of the dough as well as they've chosen not to store it in the fridge for multiple days. Instead, they guarantee freshness by fermenting the dough at room temperature.
Khanna credits his wife Shweta - who was not available for the interview - for being the brains behind the changes. Both love to cook, but Shweta understands Italian cuisine better than her husband.
“My wife does a beautiful job with Italian food,” Khanna noted.
Old staples like pepperoni and cheese pizzas will continue as these are two of the most popular items on the menu. Those who prefer more toppings can choose from options like meat lovers and Hawaiian pies.
However, customers with truly diverse tastes are in for a treat with the shawarma, tandoori chicken and butter chicken pizzas.
The Khannas moved to Canada two years ago. Both got their start in the banking industry in India, but the pair always had a passion for food. They decided to go into business together when the opportunity came up.
“We were looking for an investment. We found this (Twice the Deal) appealing because the location is right in front of a school. You would notice that around 11 or 11:30 a.m., the flood gates open and the kids start coming in,” Khanna said.
