Dancer Jyoti Srivastava entertains the crowd during last year's Diwali celebration in Georgetown.

The Hindu festival of lights is set to return soon in Georgetown, and this time attendees will get a little more at the celebration.

Much of last year’s food, fun and traditions are coming back on Oct. 19, with the addition of a Ramlila - a dramatic re-enactment - performed by local youths that will retell the story behind Diwali.

“I’m expecting lots of people who don’t know (the story),” Georgetown Diwali organizer and Halton Hills Interfaith Council member Aditee Goswami said. “We know about the Christian traditions and what is the reason or story behind them. (People) would also like to know our story.”

Along with the youth performance, there will be a senior performance, dancing and bingo. And of course, there will be plenty of food for dinner.

Tickets are $35 for adults and $25 for kids aged three and 12. Kids under three get in for free. The price of the tickets will go up on Oct. 1.

Proceeds from the event will be directed to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation and – as a new addition this year – the Townsend Smith Foundation's efforts to build north Halton's first hospice residence.

The gathering will take place at Norval United Church (14015 Danby Rd.) starting at 5 p.m.
