Georgetown curler earns Ontario University all-star honours for second straight year

Patrick Sipura was named an Ontario University Athletics first-team curling all-star for the second straight year.

Georgetown’s Patrick Sipura was named to the first all-star team after helping Brock University claim a bronze medal at the Ontario University Athletics curling championships.

Spiura, the lead on the Brock rink, helped the Badgers defeat the Waterloo Warriors 5-3 in the bronze medal game. Brock scored twice in the third end to take a 3-1 lead, then stole one in the fourth on their way to victory.

The win earned Brock a spot at the national championships in Lethbridge, Alb. Feb. 24-28.

The Badgers went 4-0 in pool play before beating York 7-3 in the quarterfinals. Laurier rallied to edge Brock 8-7 in an extra end in the semis.

It was the second straight year Sipura, a fourth-year business student, was named an OUA first-team all-star.
