Growing up just west of Toronto, it seems scoring his first NHL hat trick against the Maple Leafs would be a dream come true. Except Jason Dickinson was an Ottawa Senators fan.

Which might have made sticking it to the Senators’ biggest rival even better.

With the Chicago Blackhawks struggling to score – they hadn’t managed more than three goals during a five-game losing streak – the Georgetown centre scored three times in a 4-3 overtime win over Toronto Friday (Nov. 24).

With the Hawks trailing 3-1, Joey Anderson’s pass deflected off a stick to Dickinson at the side of the net and he fired a wrist shot past Leaf goalie Ilya Samsonov for his second goal of the game.

Dickinson completed his hat trick 15 seconds into the third period, tying the game with a wrist shot from the top of the circles to complete the hat trick.

“It felt pretty amazing,” Dickinson told NHL.com. “The puck laid up nicely in the slot to finish it off and luckily it went in."

The game remained tied through regulation and Chicago completed its comeback when Kevin Korchinski scored with 30 seconds left in overtime.

Dickinson scored his first goal eight minutes into the game, less than a minute after Toronto had opened the scoring.

Dickinson’s hat trick doubled his season goal total to six, second on the team to rookie sensation Connor Bedard. Less than a quarter of the way into the season, he needs only four more goals to establish a career high.
