Police in Halifax are investigating a Friday evening collision between a transit bus and a car on a highway.

Officers responded to a collision report at around 6 p.m. in the 0-100 block of the Bedford Highway.

A vehicle travelling north on Joseph Howe Drive merged onto the Bedford Highway and collided with a Halifax Transit bus travelling in the same direction.

The driver of the car was a 31-year-old woman who was taken to hospital with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries.

Police say no one on the bus sustained serious injuries.

The highway where the incident occurred was shut down for several hours, but it has since reopened.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been laid.
