With deep sadness, the family of Spiros Mitanis announces his passing at the age of 82 on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Spiros was adored by his children John (Loretta) and Cathy (Kevin), and was best friend to his wife, Eleftheria. He was the world's best "Dedo" to his grandchildren Angelo, Dina (Chris), Keenan, Leah, and their dog Daisy. Spiros was a devoted and dear brother to Fania (Julio), Pando (Anne), and George (predeceased), and loving uncle to Paul (Marie) and Alexandra (Adam). He was also a great uncle to Nicolas (Vicky), Emily (Adam), Ava, and Hannah. Spiros will be fondly remembered by many other family members and friends.

Spiros immigrated to Canada from Greece in 1959, settling in Toronto to build a future for himself and assist his parents and siblings. He and his wife raised their children, always striving for a better life and being proud of their family.

Known for his kindness and joyful nature, Spiros brought happiness to everyone around him. He loved working, whether on the job as a cutter in the clothing industry for over 50 years, or on home projects, and was always ready to help others. After retiring, he enjoyed long walks around town, greeting everyone he met, and time at home with family laughing at his favourite comedy shows and sharing stories. His cheerful whistling and occasional harmonica playing were a constant reminder of his zest for life.

Spiros holds a very special place in our hearts and will be tremendously missed by all those who had the great privilege to have him in their life.

Visitation will be held at Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road in Georgetown, on Monday, September 9, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral service with family will follow on Tuesday, September 10, at 11:00 a.m., with interment at Devereaux Cemetery in Georgetown.

Donations can be made to Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or Cancer Assistance of Halton Hills. The family extends special thanks to Dr. McCart and her team at Mount Sinai for their care during Spiros' 14-year battle with cancer.
