A driver from Halton Hills has been charged with impaired following a RIDE spot check in northern Ontario.
Just before 8 p.m. Jan. 9, the North Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was participating in a RIDE check when they stopped a vehicle in East Ferris Township.
After speaking to the driver, it was determined that they had consumed alcohol, police said in a news release.
The driver was arrested and transported to the North Bay OPP Detachment for further testing.
Following an investigation, a 43-year-old Acton man was charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
- Operate motor vehicle, no currently validated permit.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on Feb. 6.
The local resident also received a 90-day driver's licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
