A Georgetown man faces assault and weapons charges after a knife was pulled on staff of a downtown Guelph establishment early Friday.

Just after 1 a.m. police were called to a bar downtown. Police say a male had been stopped by staff as he attempted to leave with two pitchers of alcohol. He was removed from the establishment, but police say he pulled out a flip knife and began waving it at employees in a threatening manner.

Police were called and located the male a short distance away. The knife was recovered from his pocket.

A 26-year-old Georgetown man is charged with assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He will appear in court December 17.
