Halton Police are investigating a trio of vehicle thefts that have happened in Georgetown over the past week.

Sometime overnight on Jan. 3, police say a pickup truck was stolen from a residential driveway on Hepburn Crescent in Georgetown.

Later that week, a Lexus SUV parked at a River Drive home was reported stolen overnight on Jan. 6, according to police. The vehicle was recovered in a Mississauga parking lot by police on Jan. 7.

Then on Sunday night (Jan. 8), police say a Dodge Ram 1500 was stolen from a driveway on Morningside Drive.

Const. Steve Elms said a wallet was left in the truck and bank cards were used at a gas station and McDonald’s.

The investigation into all three incidents is ongoing. No arrests have been made yet.

Anyone with information can contact police at 905-825-4777 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or haltoncrimestoppers.ca.

Halton Regional Police offer the following tips to help prevent vehicle theft:

  • Park your vehicle in a locked/secure garage, if possible
  • Lock the onboard diagnostic port using a simple device (that can be purchased online) that blocks access to where thieves reprogram the vehicle’s key fob
  • Use a steering wheel locking device to deter theft
  • Invest in an aftermarket global positioning system (GPS) tracker as it may assist in recovery of the vehicle if it is stolen
  • When not in use, place vehicle key fob inside a radio frequency shielding bag/pouch to block cell signals
  • Consider purchasing a quality video surveillance system and ensure your cameras are properly placed and functioning for 24-hour use.
