Dear Editor,

On Sunday, Sept. 15, the 44th annual Terry Fox Run took place once again at the high school track in Acton.

The official opening took place at 8 a.m., attended by MPP Ted Arnott, Mayor Ann Lawlor, 2023 Acton Citizen of the Year Rick Bonnette, 2022 Citizen of the Year David MacLean, 2021 Citizens of the Year Anne and Lloyd McIntyre and Miss Acton Fall Fair Mackenzie Hamilton, along with many eager participants and volunteers.

Blessed with beautiful weather, both first-time and long-time participants showed up throughout the day to donate, walk or run the track in memory of Terry and in many cases, to honour someone they love who has won, lost or is currently waging their fight against cancer.

The Acton Run has set a goal of raising $50,000 over the next two years, which would see the Acton Terry Fox Run surpass the $1 million fundraising mark in 2025 on the 45th anniversary of the run.

Although it usually takes several weeks after the event to receive a final tally of the overall total funds raised, at this time it can be reported that the $25,000 goal for this year is close to within reach.

A raffle was held to raise additional funds for the cause and the winners were:

  • First prize - a pair of replica Terry Fox running shoes, won by Travis Ella
  • Second prize, a vintage Terry Fox sweat shirt, won by Lloyd Smallwood
  • Third prize, a vintage Terry Fox T-shirt and hat, won by Jim Cooney.

The committee would like to thank everyone involved, participants, sponsors, volunteers and supporters for their time and efforts in contributing to another successful year.

Over the past 44 years this has truly been a community effort in support of Terry and his dream of finding a cure for cancer. We are so blessed, and so thankful.

Acton - 2025 - $1,000,000 – for Terry!
