A developer is eyeing land just east of the Georgetown GO station for a three-building, 1481-unit apartment complex.
The Town has received the proposal from Gilbach Inc. for 130 Mountainview Rd. N., which is bounded by River Drive to the north, the GO station tracks to the south and the historic paper coating mill to the west. An integral part of the buildings’ designs are six towers of varying heights – from 17 to 22 storeys.
The developer calls for a new public road to connect River Drive and Mountainview Road – skirting the easternmost building – as well as a privately-owned, but publicly-accessible, park.
The application is still in its early days and, according to Town Director of Planning Review Jeff Markowiak, there's currently no specific timeframe for council consideration of the plans.
“The initial review of the applications has not yet been completed and the next step is to hold the statutory public meeting in order to receive public feedback on the proposal,” he elaborated.
Staff anticipate that public consultation will be sometime in the spring.
During the review stage, the Town’s various departments and other external agencies like conservation authorities (if necessary) examine and provide comments on the developer's application.
Town staff will assess the merits of the application and provide those and other details to council in a report. Council then has the final authority to approve or deny the plans.
The neighbourhood is certainly seeing its share of high-density development proposals. Plans for a trio of condos totalling almost 640 units have also been put forth for 1 Rosetta Street - the site of the former paper coating mill.
