Cycling advocacy group installs Ghost Bike memorial near Acton fatal crash site

At this point, no charges have been laid in the March 3 death of the cyclist from Georgetown

A cycling advocacy group has installed a memorial on Hwy. 7 near Acton where a cyclist was struck and killed earlier this month.

Advocacy for Respect for Cyclists (ARC) has attached the Ghost Bike to a telephone pole near the site where a 60-year-old Georgetown man on a bicycle was killed after being struck by a vehicle.

The bike is painted white and attached to the handlebars is a placard that reads: '60-year-old cyclist. Killed March 3, 2024. You never ride alone.'

The Ghost Bike originated as a memorial to cyclists killed by automobiles in St. Louis in 2003.

“We paid silent tribute to the fallen cyclist after installing the memorial,” Joey Schwartz of ARC said on the group’s Facebook page.

At this point, no charges have been laid in the cyclist’s death. The OPP’s investigation is continuing.
