A driver is facing over half a dozen charges after fleeing from police on local roads this week.

The incident occurred when Halton Police were on patrol in the area of 10 Sideroad and Winston Churchill Boulevard late Monday night.

Police say just before midnight, officers witnessed an Infiniti sedan travelling southbound on Winston Churchill at high speed. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but police say the driver failed to comply.

In an effort to elude police, the driver attempted a U turn but veered into the ditch, according to police.

Police say the driver continued to resist as they made the arrest. During their investigation, police found a speed measuring warning device in the car.

As a result of an investigation, a 23-year-old Ottawa man is charged with three Criminal Code offences – flight from peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and obstruct peace officer.

The driver is also facing four Highway Traffic Act offences – drive motor vehicle performing a stunt, unnecessary noise, fail to stop when signaled by a police officer and drive motor vehicle with a speed measuring device.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is to appear in court at a later date.
