The Halton Hills EcoFilm Festival is poised to get underway next week, bringing environmental education to local residents on the big screen.

Regenerating Life will kick things off Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the John Elliott Theatre. The movie by John Feldman looks at the underlying causes of global warming, going beyond carbon emissions from burning fossil fuels, to the destruction of nature around the world.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 7 p.m. Come early and connect with local eco groups.

It will be the first of five films screened at the John Elliott Theatre over the coming months.

Future movies include:

  • The Need to Grow (Nov. 13): An award-winning documentary about solutions needed, focusing on soil and food
  • Water is Love (Mar. 19): This film follows a group young people travelling the world to share stories of regenerative ecosystem design to create water retention in communities and villages.
  • The Issue with Tissue (Apr. 22): A movie that documents the story of the Boreal forest that's being clearcut to produce toilet paper and the Indigenous First Nations who call the forest home.
  • Deep Rising (May 14): A feature-length documentary that shows how the ocean’s depths could hold the key to sustainable energy.
