On Saturday, Oct. 19 the Georgetown Bach Chorale, together with Master Works of Oakville and The Bach Elgar Choir of Hamilton, will mount Georgetown's first choral festival, 'Baroque Brilliance.'

This event was the brainchild of Alex Cann, conductor of the Bach Elgar choir pre-COVID days. As the world opened up again, his dream was finally able to come to fruition. This upcoming concert is the second collaboration following the huge success of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in Hamilton last May with the Hamilton Philharmonic, as well as Widor's wonderful Mass for two organs and full chorus.

Saturday’s performance at Holy Cross Catholic Parish in Georgetown South will again include a blockbuster program.

The Four Coronation Anthems by Handel (including the majestic 'Zadok the Priest') are an audience favourite, right up there with the Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah. Each conductor will strut their stuff, together with 120 voices and full Baroque Orchestra.

True to its character, the GBC always includes orchestral works in its programming. This concert will feature Maestro Charles Demuynck leading the ensemble in J. S. Bach's exuberant Orchestral Suite in D Major, including the famous ‘Air on the G String.’

J.S. Bach was perhaps one of the most inventive composers in history. In this performance on Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m., listeners will have the pleasure of experiencing Bach's Concerto for not one, not two, but three harpsichords and strings.

As many of you know, Ron Greidanus lost his beloved harpsichord due to fire last spring at St. Anne's Anglican church in Toronto. However, this tragedy has not prevented him from moving forward and mounting such a wonderful concerto. Maestro Alex Cann and Dr Matthew Pope (a Georgetown native) will join Ron in this inventive tour de force.

Tickets for this event also known as 'Baroque Brilliance' can be purchased online at www.georgetownbachchorale.com, at Food Stuffs in downtown Georgetown or at the door. Adults - $40, students - $15.
