The Zellers store in The Bay at Bramalea City Centre will open in September, says the company.
According to a press release posted by the company today, the new store location will be in addition to 21 pop-ups planned to open across the country on Aug. 11.
Currently, there are 25 Zellers stores within Hudson's Bays across the country.
The announcement follows last week's news that the company will shutter The Bay at Burlington Centre next June and relocate the Zellers store within it to the Bramalea City Centre.
The Burlington Centre Zellers store within The Bay was one of a dozen locations in Ontario and Alberta that opened in March to much fanfare, reviving the "Everyday Low Prices" brand that closed in 2013. Prior to that, a Zellers pop-up was added on the second floor of The Bay's Burlington Centre store in the fall of 2021.
The company says the pop-up footprints vary from store to store, ranging from 1,000 to 2,800 sq. ft. (with the exception of Queen Street in Toronto) depending on location. Zellers stores within Hudson's Bay range from 8,000 to 10,000 sq. ft.
The pop-ups, described in the press release as a "bite-sized" taste of the Zellers experience, serve as strategic market tests to determine future Zellers store locations, the company said.
"Pop-ups are a key ingredient in our expansion strategy, allowing us to explore and test in new markets, gather valuable customer insights, and fine-tune our offering before establishing larger format store locations," says Sophia Hwang-Judiesch, President of Hudson's Bay. "Our customers are very much part of our growth process, and together we will shape the future of Zellers, building a shopping experience that truly connects with communities across Canada."
The pop-ups showcase a curated assortment of quality, value and design-led Zellers merchandise, and provide an opportunity for Canadians to actively demonstrate where they would like to see the next Zellers store open, said the company.
In addition to the Mapleview Hudson's Bay, the Zellers pop-up locations opening in Ontario in August are in Windsor, Kitchener, Barrie, Oshawa, Pickering, Newmarket and Orléans. Pop-ups will also open in British Columbia, Alberta, Sasketchewan and Quebec.
