December 19, 1949 – June 1, 2024

Mike Metcalf (74) passed away peacefully on June 1st, 2024 at Georgetown Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.

Beloved husband of Barbara for nearly 50 years, father to Devon (Paul) and Kristen and grandfather to Olivia and Camden. Mike is predeceased by his sister Jill, mother Betty and father Herbert.

Mike proudly served as a police officer with Peel Regional Police for over 40 years. His long and distinguished career was marked by highlights such as receiving the Ontario Medal for Police Bravery for his role in the aftermath of the 1979 Mississauga train derailment and for being named Champion for Children by the Peel Region’s Children’s Aid Foundation in 2009. Mike was a steadfast supporter of numerous charitable organizations, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Toys for Tots, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Children’s Breakfast Club, and the Children’s Aid Society.

Mike retired as Police Chief in 2012 and embraced retirement with many trips to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with his wife, Barb and frequent rounds of golf. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, his love of history, and the wild socks he would wear much to the delight of his grandkids. Mike will not only be missed by his loving family and close friends, but also his former colleagues at Peel Regional Police.

A celebration of life and a private interment will occur at a later date in Georgetown, Ontario. If desired, memorial donations made to Cancer Assistance Services Halton Hills (CAShh) or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
