Police charge 3 Halton Hills drivers with impaired-related offences

The separate incidents occurred in Acton, rural Halton Hills and Burlington

Halton Regional Police have been busy on local roads this week with impaired-related incidents.

On Jan. 24, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Queensway Drive and Guelph Line in Burlington. As a result of an investigation, Jeremy Hartley, 31, of Acton was charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand.

The same day, police responded to a citizen-initiated complaint in the area of Queen Street East and Tanner Drive in Acton. Following an investigation, Ayman Rashedi, 28, of Halton Hills was charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand.

On Jan. 25, officers attended to another citizen-initiated complaint, this time in the area of Mountainview Road South and Danby Road in Georgetown. As a result of an investigation, Andrew Herbert, 38, of Freelton was charged with operation while impaired and blood alcohol concentration 80 mg or more, within two hours.

Police then responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the area of No. 5 Side Road and Tenth Line in Halton Hills on Jan. 26. Following an investigation, Donovan Smith, 24, of Georgetown was charged with operation while impaired and blood alcohol concentration 80 mg or more, within two hours. 

Local residents are reminded that driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol is a crime in progress and to call 911 immediately to report a suspected impaired driver.

Here are some signs of an impaired driver: 

  • Driving unreasonably fast, slow or at an inconsistent speed
  • Drifting in and out of lanes
  • Tailgating and changing lanes frequently
  • Making exceptionally wide turns
  • Changing lanes or passing without sufficient clearance
  • Overshooting or stopping well before stop signs or stop lights
  • Disregarding signals and lights
  • Approaching signals or leaving intersections too quickly or slowly
  • Driving without headlights, failing to lower high beams or leaving turn signals on
  • Driving with windows open in cold or inclement weather

All people charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
