A woman has been pronounced dead following a fire at a Georgetown home this morning (Feb. 7).
The Halton Hills Fire Department and Halton Regional Police responded to a call about a fire on Victoria Street at 5:20 a.m. The home was fully engulfed in flames when emergency services arrived. Police say the fire was spreading to a neighbouring residence and the occupants were evacuated.
A female occupant of the primary residence was pulled from the house by firefighters, but police say she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are not identifying the woman at this time.
No other residents were found in the home and no injuries were reported to police.
More than four hours after the initial call, flames could still be seen shooting through the roof of the home as the fire department used an aerial water cannon and several other lines to douse the blaze.
