The Special Investigations Unit is investigating the reported serious injury of a man during his interaction with Halton Regional Police Service officers on Tuesday in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

"Preliminary information suggests officers at about 1:20 p.m. were in pursuit of a stolen truck. Using a spike belt, officers stopped the truck at Highway 7 and Wellington Road in Guelph and three occupants fled," SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette said via email.

Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) media relations officer Jeff Dillon previously said in an email that HRPS officers responded to a stolen vehicle investigation in the Guelph Line area near Halton Hills.

"All three were arrested. A fourth person, a man, was located in the rear of the truck. A conducted energy weapon was discharged and he was arrested. All four individuals were taken to hospital. The man who was in the rear of truck is reported to have suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries. He has been released from hospital," Denette said.

Three investigators have been assigned to the case.
