A local man is among people charged in connection with a recent armed home invasion in Milton.
On Jan. 12 around 12:50 a.m., police say three suspects broke into a home in the Walnut Landing and Proud Drive area – two with handguns and a third brandishing a hammer.
According to police, they confronted an adult male resident of the home while a female hid within the home.
Designer clothing, jewelry, bank cards and the keys to a Dodge Durango were stolen, police say, with the suspects fleeing in a waiting Honda Civic hatchback driven by a fourth person.
The victims did not sustain any physical injuries.
On January 18, at 5:40 a.m., two suspects returned to the residence and stole the Dodge Durango from the driveway.
The investigation led to search warrants being executed at residences in Toronto and Milton on Jan. 29, when a quantity of the stolen property was located and recovered.
Two men were subsequently arrested.
Ali Zaman (27) of Milton was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Break and Enter
- Robbery Using a Firearm
- Disguise with Intent
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence
- Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card
Alex Ghakhar (27) of Toronto was charged with:
- Break and Enter
- Robbery Using a Firearm
- Disguise with Intent
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence
- Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card
- Operation While Prohibited (3 Counts)
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (2 Counts)
- Possession of Automobile Master Key
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5000
Ghakhar and Zaman were held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.
The charges have not been tested in court.
Follow up investigation has recovered the stolen Dodge Durango; however, the 1 District Robbery Unit is continuing to search for and identify other outstanding suspects connected to the investigation.
