Josh Currie of the Georgetown Raiders celebrates his third period goal that tied Saturday's Ontario Junior Hockey League season opener, but Mississauga won 5-4 in overtime.

Josh Currie tied the game midway through the third period to send the Georgetown Raiders to overtime, but the Mississauga Chargers scored to earn a 5-4 win.

The Raiders dug their way out of a two-goal hole in Saturday’s Ontario Junior Hockey League opener after allowing a pair of goals by the opening minute of the second period. Georgetown rallied in an unlikely way, though.

Connor Thomson-Dick cut the lead in half and then with the Raiders killing a penalty, Georgetown’s Jayden Levesque and Andrew Robinson scored shorthanded goals 39 seconds apart.

Mississauga regained the lead with a pair of goals in the third, but that lasted less than a minute before Currie tied the game 4-4.

Mississauga’s Nicolas Wlodarczyk would spoil the home crowd’s night though, when his powerplay goal gave the Chargers the win in the second overtime period.

Jack Gallo and Owen McNamara each had a pair of assists for the Raiders.

Georgetown will play Friday in Oakville at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex at 7 p.m. before returning home for a 5:30 p.m. game Saturday against Buffalo at the Mold-Masters SportsPlex.
