The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is seeking witnesses following an incident involving a Halton Regional Police officer at the Acton Fall Fair that left a man seriously injured.

According to the SIU, around 11:20 p.m. on September 20 in the parking lot area of the fair, a paid duty officer attempted to arrest a 54-year-old man for a reported assault.

“There was an interaction and the man became unresponsive,” the SIU stated in a press release.

“EMS assessed the man and transported him to hospital in Georgetown. The man has been transferred to a Mississauga hospital where he is in critical condition.”

The SIU said it’s believed that people in the parking lot area recorded the incident with their cell phones. These individuals are being urged to come forward as witnesses.

Anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, is asked to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
