Halton Police are looking for a suspect who offered a gift as a distraction before stealing a gold necklace in Georgetown.

Police say around 1:45 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 2), a woman was approached by a female suspect as she left the Food Basics grocery store on Guelph Street. The suspect handed the victim a gold ring and said she wanted to give her a necklace, according to police. The suspect then tried to put the necklace around the victim’s neck.

Police say the victim resisted and backed away, saying she didn't want the necklace. A short time after the suspect left, the victim realized her own necklace that she was wearing was missing.

The suspect is described as a white female with a medium build, approximately 5 feet tall, wearing a grey head scarf.
