Man charged with impaired after ramming Halton Police vehicles near Speyside

A Killaloe, Ont. man was charged with impaired and fleeing from police Sunday morning.

A man who Halton Police say struck two police vehicles after being woken up by officers locally is facing impaired driving charges.

Halton Police responded to a citizen complaint of a vehicle being stopped on 15 Sideroad east of Regional Road 25 around 2:15 a.m. Sunday. Police say when officers arrived they found a truck in the roadway, straddling both lanes. 

Police reported the man in the driver’s seat had his eyes closed and when officers attempted to wake him, the man awoke and accelerated the truck forward, striking a police vehicle. He then put the truck in reverse and struck another police vehicle. 

Police managed to stop the truck and arrest the driver. 

A 60-year-old Killaloe, Ont. resident has been charged with flight from peace officer, operation while impaired and operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration.

Halton Regional Police no longer name individuals facing impaired charges.
